Alkaline Water Filter Pitchers Reviews

1 – pH Restore Alkaline Water Pitcher Filter by Invigorated Living

The popular pH Restore alkaline pitcher employs a 7 stage filtering system and makes a great choice if you want your pitcher to hold more water than the more standard 2.5L pitchers. Despite it’s larger capacity (3.5L), it’s slim design means it still fits in most refrigerators.

It’s easy-to-fill lid also allows you to fill the reservoir without removing the cover and the ergonomic handle ensures comfortable use. A built in countdown timer reminds you when it’s time to replace the filter cartridge.

Product Highlights

  • 3.5L total capacity
  • Employs 7 stage filtering process
  • Countdown timer reminds you when to change the filter
  • Includes 2 filters (1500 cups/360 litres per filter)
  • Mineral ball adds essential minerals, such as selenium and calcium, to the water
  • BPA free

Alkaline/ORP spec: According to manufacturer raises pH by .5 to 2 points. High negative ORP (again no exact range is given, probably because ORP is never an absolute).

Also filters out: Reduces chlorine and odours and heavy metals, such as lead.

Verdict: The pH Restore by Invigorated Living get consistent positive reviews, with almost 70% giving it a 5*s thumbs up on Amazon. With it’s 3.5L capacity, it’s also a good option to consider if you’re after an alkaline pitcher that holds more water.

The pitcher design itself is pretty robust, although there are a few reports of the pitcher leaking near the handle or the filter clogging. These are easily rectified though. Leaking appears to be a result of over-filling (don’t fill beyond over the line on the back of the housing) and clogging usually a result of air bubbles – simply give the filter cartridge a shake if this occurs.

Based on reviews and performance this is one of the top rated alkaline filters on our list.

2 – Oxa Large 10 Cup Alkaline Water Filter Pitcher

The Oxa Alkaline Water Filter Pitcher employs a 7 stage filtering system to typically provide a pH of between 8.5-10, as well as a low negative ORP (it’s antioxidant potential) of -100mv.

In terms of design, it’s slimer design than some, making it a good option for most refrigerator doors. It’s handy comfort-grip handle design makes pouring easy and the pour spout cover prevents odours and particulates from getting into your water. The built in filter reminder also lets you know when it’s time to change the filter.

Product Highlights

  • 1.5 L filtered water capacity and 2.5 L total capacity
  • Filter reminder notifies you when to replace filter cartridge
  • Employs 7 stage filtering
  • Includes 2 long life filters (2400 cups)
  • BPA free design
  • Pitcher and filters are recyclable

Alkaline/ORP spec:  typically provides pH of 8.5-10.0. (Typically increases pH by 2 or more points). Negative ORP:-100mv.

Also filters out:  Aids in removing chlorine, odors, heavy metals, such as zinc, copper and lead.

Verdict: This is an affordable alkaline water pitcher filter, which gets consistent 5* reviews on Amazon. It also  filters out common contaminants such as chlorine. There’s the odd flow issue for some people, where the flow is either a trickle or too strong and a few people didn’t take to the taste of the water.

However, for the money, the Oxa is a great all round budget alkaline pitcher.

Don’t be misled by the product description, though, which descries the filter as ‘large’ – it’s 2.5L , which is actually pretty standard. For a larger capacity alkaline pitcher in this price range, try the DRAGONN PH Restore Pitcher or The Alkaline Water Pitcher by Lake Industries (3.5L version) below.

3 – EHM ULTRA Premium Alkaline Water Pitcher

The EHM ULTRA Alkaline Water Pitcher employs a 6 stage filtering system to typically provide a pH of between 7.8-10. It also adds minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium minerals and and provides a low negative ORP between -100 and -200 mv.

It’s got a larger capacity that other filters (3.5L) and fits in most refrigerators. The design is pretty standard with a removable lid for easy filling and a flip-top pouring spout.

Product Highlights

  • 1.5 L filtered water capacity and 2.5 L total capacity
  • Employs 6 stage filtering
  • Filter lasts approx 90 days when filled once a day
  • Remineralises the water by adding minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium
  • Includes 1 filter
  • BPA free

Alkaline/ORP spec:  typically provides pH of 7.8-10.0. Negative ORP:-100mv to -200mv.

Also filters out: Aids in removing chlorine, odors and heavy metals, such as copper and lead.

Verdict: The EHM alkaline water pitcher is another affordable alkaline pitcher. It doesn’t score as highly with reviewers as the Oxa, largely because a number of people appear to have issues with the spout sticking or the filter clogging. There’s also no built in filter replacement reminder. The EHM product details also suggest it’s the winner of ‘Best Of It’s Kind’ for 4 years, but we can’t find any details that back this up.

Lot’s of people are still pretty happy with it though, plus it’s got the advantage of being a larger capacity filter (3.5L total capacity) if the more standard 2.0-2.5 litres is not enough.

4 – Santevia Water Systems Alkaline Water Pitcher

Santevia are a big name in countertop water filters and they also produce an alkaline water pitcher. The pitcher employs  a 6 stage filtering process and also adds beneficial minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, to the water.

Again, the pitcher is pretty standard in design, with an easy-to-fill lid, which allows you to fill it with water by simply lifting an auto-close flip top area. This avoids having to remove the entire lid when re-filling. Santevia also claim their filters are longer lasting than other similar cartridges.

Product Highlights

  • 9 glass total capacity (about 2.2L)
  • Employs 6 stage filtering process
  • Each filter produces 1,250 8oz glasses, more than most pitcher filters.
  • Countdown clock reminds you when it’s time to change the filter
  • Includes 1 filter
  • Adds calcium, magnesium and other minerals to the water
  • Available in 4 colours

Alkaline/ORP spec: Unspecified, it simply states that it raises the pH. Negative ORP in region of -150-300mv.

Also filters out: Independently tested to reduce chlorine taste and odour, heavy metals, industrial chemicals and agricultural contaminants.

Verdict: The Santevia comes in a little more expensive then other similar filters. However, Santeria claim their filters last almost double the time of many other similar filters, so long term, the filters may work out cheaper. Saying that, there appear to be a couple of design flaws with the Santevia alkaline pitcher – primarily that the filter countdown clock is prone to breakage and the auto-close lid sometimes a poor fit.

It’s easy to fill lid allows you to fill the reservoir without removing the cover and it’s ergonomic handle makes it easy to hold and pour. It’s slim enough to fit in most refrigerators and the spout cover is designed to make pouring simple and avoid spillage.

Product Highlights

  • 2.5L total capacity
  • Employs 7 stage filtering process
  • Includes 1 filter (lasts about 60 days)
  • Mineral ball adds essential mineral to the water
  • BPA free

Alkaline/ORP spec: Typically provides pH in range of 7.5-9.5.  Negative ORP typically in range of -50mV to -200mV.

Also filters out: Reduces chlorine, odours and heavy metals, such as zinc, copper and lead.

Verdict: The Alkaline Water Pitcher by Lake Industries is a big seller and around 60% of customers give it the full 5*s.

To ensure you the lid doesn’t slip off when tipping at a sheer angle, note that the lid of the pitcher fits in the blue reservoir. Simply remove the reservoir from the pitcher, and place the lid on to the reservoir. Then place both pieces into the pitcher together, and you should have a secure fit.

There are also a few instances where the cartridge has not fitted securely, which can cause cross contamination between filtered and unfiltered water. Remember to ensure the cartridge stickers are removed before inserting the cartridge, as this can hinder the cartridge locking in correctly, as well as filtration speed.

There’s no countdown clock on this pitcher, but it is available at little extra cost is a larger 3.5L capacity version.

Alkaline Water Pitcher Filters Buyers Guide

Here are some suggestion for things to consider when buying an alkaline water pitcher filter:

Price – more expensive doesn’t always mean better. So decide on a price bracket and look for pitchers that fall within that range. There are some very affordable alkaline pitchers out there. Also look for how often you need to replace a filter cartridge, as this can bump the price up if filters need to be changed more often.

Filter capacity – if you have a large family or drink a lot of water, you may find a larger capacity pitcher suits you better. The regular 2.5 liter ones may not provide enough alkaline water for your daily needs, so consider one of the larger capacity options, such as the Dragonn Pitcher, which has a capacity of 3.5 litres.

Filter type – everyday water filter pitchers generally use a single carbon based filter to reduce contaminants. Alkaline filters employ extra filtering stages, using ion resin, for example, in order to make the water more alkaline. Generally speaking, the more filtering stages, the better the filter.

Storage space – where do you plan to keep your pitcher? Some people place them on their kitchen countertop, others prefer to keep them in the fridge. Make sure the pitcher you choose fits the space you have in mind for it. Larger capacity yfilters, for example, will not fit in the doors or compartments of all fridges.

pH capacity – alkaline water pitcher filters should produce water with a pH of 7 and above. Better performing models may keep the pH above 9. Keep in mind though, pH levels are largely dependent on existing pH levels in your tap water, so a specific pH is never guaranteed. This is sometimes why you will see reviews where customers have tested the alkalinity and produced different results from one other.

ORP reduction – whilst pH is an important factor in alkaline water, ORP (oxidation reduction potential) is also considered beneficial to health. This is because alkaline ionised water with a low negative ORP is considered a powerful antioxidant. The problem with ORP, however, is that it’s impossible to state absolute values – but as a guide, the ORP of most tap water in North America is between +200 to +600mv. These waters would have no antioxidant potential, as their values are +. Alkaline water pitchers should have a negative ORP.

Test results  – where available, look for products that are transparent with independent testing results on their websites. This is generally a good indication the product does what it says it does, but they aren’t always easy to find.

Read reviews – however good a product sounds, there’s often nothing like a good recommendation from others. Before buying a product, have a look at what others are saying about it online.

Alkaline Water Pitcher Filters FAQS

Here are some commonly asked questions in relation to alkaline water pitcher filters.

What is alkaline water?

Put simply, alkaline water generally described as water with a pH higher than 7.0. pH is a number on a scale of 0 to 14 that indicates how acidic or alkaline something is. Anything over 7 is considered alkaline.

You can read more about alkaline water in more depth here.

What are the benefits of alkaline water?

Western diets have become increasingly acidic over recent years, something that is thought to contribute to low grade acidosis. Acidosis is a condition in which disease is thought to thrive.

Advocates of alkaline water believe this excess acidity can be balanced through drinking alkaline water and eating an more alkaline diet. This is believed to contribute to a range of health benefits – from increased hydration to a boosted immune system.

Where can I buy alkaline water pitcher filters?

You can buy regular water filter pitchers from many high street stores and supermarkets, often at a very low price. However, alkaline pitchers can be a little harder to come by. I generally find they are most readily available at competitive prices online on places such as Amazon.

How much does an alkaline water pitcher filter cost?

More expensive doesn’t necessarily mean better. Product details sometimes wow you with scientific detail that sounds good, but doesn’t always reflect reliability and quality. Whilst alkaline water machines are generally pretty expensive, there are some reliable alkaline water pitcher filters out there for under $50 (around £35).

Why do so many reviews say the water is not alkaline when they test it?

A pH can never be guaranteed with an alkaline filter, as the final pH of your filtered water will depend of the initial pH of your tap water (which varies depending on your water supply and where you live).

Many people also use pH strips to test alkalinity of their filtered water. Lake Industries (who make The Alkaline Water Filter Pitcher) don’t recommend pH strips as a reliable way to test water alkalinity, since strips are designed more for use with urine or saliva. Instead they recommend pH Reagent or a pH meter as a better indicator of pH value.

Why does filtration take longer with an alkaline water pitcher filter

Generally speaking, longer filtration means better filtration. The alkaline pitchers featured in our list employ 6 or 7 stage filtering, so this does a little longer to filter through.

Can I drink too much alkaline water?

Not easily, no. However, drinking too much alkaline water may deplete stomach acids to low levels. Drinking a lot of water, with a high pH, can also disrupt the body’s normal pH and lead to a condition knows as metabolic alkalosis (essentially the opposite of acidosis). If unsure, consult a healthcare professional.

Is there an alkaline water pitcher with a fluoride filter?

Whilst alkaline water pitcher filters generally also filter out contaminants such as chlorine and some heavy metals, fluoride is notoriously difficult to filter out.

Most everyday filters (and many more expensive ones) can’t do it.

So if you’re looking specifically for an alkaline water pitcher that tackles fluoride, the Alkaline Water Filter Pitcher by Health Metric or this one from Reshape Water are options to consider.

Reshape Water publish their test results for fluoride reduction on their website.

Alkaline Water Pitcher Filters – Final Verdict

Alkaline water water pitchers are an affordable way to make your tap water more alkaline and antioxidant, as well as reduce common contaminants such as chlorine and lead.

Whatever it says it on the box, you’ll generally find they do very similar things via a 6-7 filtering stage process that includes ion exchange resin, tourmaline, mineral balls and carbon.

So when selecting the best alkaline filter for your needs, we recommend looking at factors such as design, build and performance.

Our top pick is the pH Restore from Invigorated Living – it’s got all the features you need from an alkaline filter pitcher – a slim design, 3.5L total capacity, countdown timer to remind you when to replace the cartridge, as well as 2 long life filters. It also consistently scores great reviews with customers.

For alternative options, which come in a little cheaper (but only come with 1 filter) try the EHM, OXA 10-Cup or The Alkaline Water Pitcher from Lake Industries.
